Album Review: Evermore Darkly…

It’s always interesting to see what others thought of something, when it comes to doing a review, and comparing that to your own perspective.

For Evermore Darkly, I really had to think hard about it’s criticisms and how I myself felt.

Almost a year since Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa, and the filthy Englishmen are back with… not much. Evermore Darkly… offers just one original track and a splatter of demos, remixes and fillers.” – Metal Storm.

I will have to submit to that; it doesn’t mince the truth in terms of what is provided here. So, it leaves me in a strange position and, as an EP, sure… it doesn’t offer much.

In another way, though, I see Evermore as more of a distilling of what music and tones Cradle were producing at the time.

For example, I personally found Venus Aversa to be crowded and lacking an overall purpose (regardless of whether I liked the individual tracks or not).

I could also say the same for The Manticore… yet Evermore Darkly is different; it holds a stronger presence in my mind than those other two, and that is where I find the value in it.

I also really liked the artwork, for what it’s worth.

And, with tracks like Forgive Me Father (I’m In A Trance), it adds something that helps just enough to break up the audio pallete of the source material.

In all, I agree with Metal Storm that this is something for the hardcore fan, but in contrast to their article; I do often play through it again.
